The annual seminar, generally offered each April, provides an opportunity for our campus community to hear from foundation representatives who can share valuable information about their foundation’s priorities and decision-making processes, as well as overall trends in philanthropy.

The seminar is open to all interested faculty, administrators, and advancement officers.

Over the past several years, we’ve had speakers from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Joyce Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Spencer Foundation, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Please join us April 7 for the annual Foundation Philanthropy Seminar, hosted by the Office of Foundation Relations. This year's seminar features a panel of University of Illinois faculty who will share their experiences working with private philanthropic foundations. The panelists are:
- Lizanne DeStefano, Fox Family Professor and Director, Illinois STEM Initiative, College of Education
- Brant Houston, Knight Chair Professor in Investigative and Enterprise Reporting, College of Media
- Barry Pittendrigh, C.W. Kearns, C.L. Metcalf and W.P. Flint Endowed Chair in Insect Toxicology, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
- John Unsworth, Dean and Professor, Graduate School of Library and Information Science and Director, Illinois Informatics Initiative
Panelists will discuss how they have built relationships and secured funding from a variety of foundations, including the Mellon Foundation, the Spencer Foundation, the Knight Foundation, the Gates Foundation, and more.
The seminar will be held in the Monsanto Room, ACES Library, Information, and Alumni Center, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2009. The seminar is free and open to faculty, staff, and graduate students. Because seating is limited, registration is required. Sign up now!
