University of Illinois Bands is proud to be the world's largest college band program, offering Illinois students the highest quality ensemble experiences in eleven ensembles.
providing a quality musical, educational, and cultural programs for all interested Illinois students.
Comprised of less than 50% music majors, students in the UI Bands represent virtually every discipline of study here at the University of Illinois. The University Bands strive to enroll all interested and qualified musicians. Many students simply enjoyed their high school band experience and wish to pursue it at the university level while studying in non-musical fields. Increasing numbers of students recognize their continued musical development as a sincere priority, evidenced by surging enrollment and a noticeable increase in the musical abilities of the participants.
Perhaps the most visible of our ensembes, athletic bands provide spectacular entertainment at all Illini football, basketball, and volleyball games. In addition to their precision marching at Memorial Stadium, the Marching Illini presents an annual formal concert at the Assembly Hall. This event – combination showcase and portrait in contrasts – gives this athletic band the chance to show its annually sold-out crowd why it is the "Best Band in the Land."
