Assistant/Associate/Director of Advancement
to be located in San Francisco, California


The College of Engineering Office of Advancement invites applications and nominations for an Assistant/Associate/Director of Advancement.  This position will reside in San Francisco, California, as part of the West Coast office and will report jointly to the Senior Director of Advancement – West Coast and to the College of Engineering Associate Dean for Advancement for the University of Illinois’ Urbana-Champaign campus.

Engineering at Illinois is one of the world’s leading engineering programs, having 7500 students, 375 faculty, and more than 70,000 alumni.  Consistently ranked among the top five U.S. engineering schools, the College has received approximately $200 million in private and corporate support during the last five years.  With a strong and under-tapped alumni and corporate base, the College of Engineering is poised to capitalize on outstanding opportunities for private giving.

 

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support advancement activities for the College of Engineering, with primary responsibility for development activities related to the Northern California market.  The successful candidate will develop marketing plans and goals to increase private and corporate giving to the College of Engineering.

Most of the Assistant/Associate/Director’s effort will be devoted to identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects and donors.  In addition, he/she will be responsible for gift stewardship and periodic fundraising efforts for special projects, and will provide support for the other advancement staff in the College of Engineering and its departments.  The position will require regular travel throughout California and other nearby states.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Candidates must have at least a Bachelor’s degree.  Advanced degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful advancement experience or related experience in sales, marketing, or other similar areas.

  • Prior work experience that demonstrates the ability to build mutually beneficial relationships between individuals and an organization or institution of higher education.

  • Interest in science.

  • Interest in and knowledge of the interfaces between engineering, business and finance.

  • Experience working in a higher-education environment.

  • Corporate communications experience.

 

Salary

Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
