Director/Sr. Director of Advancement for Foundation Relations


The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks a full-time Director/Sr. Director of Advancement for the Office of Foundation Relations, a unit within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement. This is a full-time academic professional position, responsible for the coordination of a comprehensive foundation relations program which establishes and maintains strategic partnerships between the campus and private and family foundations.

 

Organization Relationship

The Director/Sr. Director of Advancement reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement/Associate Vice President of the University of Illinois Foundation. The Director/Sr. Director provides strategic leadership for three professional staff and one support staff.

 

Responsibilities

The Director/Sr. Director is responsible for the development of a plan to guide the University’s interactions with private foundations and works closely with campus leaders in order to match campus needs with foundation funding priorities.  He/she will interact on a regular basis with administrators, faculty, and college-based development professionals.

The Director/Sr. Director will develop and implement a University of Illinois Foundation Relations Program by:

  • Establishing, maintaining and expanding strategic partnerships with private and family foundations that are of benefit to the University. Corporate Foundations are not included under the Director/Sr. Director’s responsibilities.

  • Coordinating significant proposals submitted by the campus to private, independent, and family foundations.

  • Providing training and advisory counsel on foundation relations partnerships to unit-based development professionals, administrators, faculty and volunteers.

  • Interacting on behalf of the campus with key individuals to solicit foundation relations support.

  • Developing strategies that result in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of support from targeted foundations that have not previously supported University of Illinois programs.

  • Researching and identifying opportunities for support among private and family foundations, communicating this information to campus units, providing assistance in the development of proposals, facilitating grant discussions and arranging meetings for university and foundation leaders.

  • Stewarding gifts from foundations, including acknowledgement letters, project reports, and meetings with individual donors and foundation boards.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required with an advanced degree preferred

  • A significant record of success in securing funding from private and family foundations and/or corporations

  • Demonstrated success in proposal writing, preferably in a higher education environment

  • Excellent communication and administrative skills

 
Preferred Qualifications

Fundraising experience in a higher education environment

 

Salary

Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
